About Darjeeling

Darjeeling is one of the oldest hilstation establishment in india . In the British colonial period, it was established as a summer retreat, But much later on, it became famous for its excellent quality tea. The story begins with an officer of Bengal Medical Service who had a great interest in botany and planted an evergreen shrub species in his garden. His name was Archibald Campbell (20 April 1805 – 5 November 1874), and he planted Camellia sinensis tea species in India for the first time.

Today, it's a bustling tourist hub where millions of visitors come here and immerse themselves in local culture, savour world-famous Darjeeling tea, and explore historical attractions. Darjeeling is also known for its colonial bungalows, colourful markets, and Buddhist monasteries, Darjeeling retains a charm that feels like a slice of the past with full of modern amenities. How to Reach Darjeeling

• Nearest Airport: Bagdogra Airport (IXB), approximately 70 kilometres from Darjeeling, is the closest airport. You can reach Darjeeling by car. There is no official shared taxi service from Bagdogra airport, but if you are lucky, just come out of the airport and get locals shouting for a taxi service. Previously, there was a public bus service from the airport, but it is currently discontinued.
• Nearest Railway Station: NJP (New Jalpaiguri) Railway Station, 73 kilometres from Darjeeling, is the main railhead. From NJP, travellers can opt for private cabs or shared taxis from NJP station, Siliguri station, and SNT bus stand in Siliguri. Price per head could range from 300 to 500 depending on the season. But it would be best if you bargained before finalizing the deal. Optionally, you can board the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, most famous as "Toy Train," for a scenic journey to Darjeeling; choose this option only if you have plenty of time.
